My encounter with Nagomi
I came to know about Nagomi in Singapore during COVID time. We (me and my daughter I) attended an event organized by Passion Wave at Jurong Lake Gardens, very near my HDB apartment. I was mesmerized by this magic of fingers and the end result is a beautiful piece of ART. After googling a lot, I got to know about ArtPeace and the free online classes offered by them during the lockdown. We attended almost every free session on Zoom and painted many A5 sheets. Special thanks to teachers Audrey, Gina, Shandy Tan, Zundeng Art, and Margaret for teaching all the simple techniques and details of this wonderful art form. I introduced it to my friends and it keeps on multiplying into many, at the comfort of our home we were getting a therapy session to soothe our minds. Actually, it works as a miracle for Depression, Dementia, Alzahmeir, etc. Very good stress reliever and helps to increase concentration. That way it is very good and useful for all ages. This art requires a small kit that carries all essential tools, for beginners, it is very easy to learn and arrange the materials at a minimal price.
About Nagomi
Nagomi art is the name of a creative technique with a relaxing character, which is currently very popular in Asia. It has its origins in Japan. Normally this art piece is done on a thick paper of size 15cm x 15 cm. The focus is not only on the finished work or the applied technique but on the whole process and its calming, relaxing effect on the artist.
When we think of any painting, the fundamental thought process that comes to our mind is a paintbrush. Surprisingly, this artwork is not done using a paintbrush, it is done using our fingers. The press that we make on the paper using our fingers and the soft pastel powder done the wonder of giving us a beautiful art piece as our end product. When we want strong strokes in our painting, the pressure we give to our fingers will be and if we need lighter color strokes in our painting, the pressure we give to our fingers will be gentle. This art is therapeutic why because it activates the pressure points in our fingers and overall increases our patience, reduces anxiety, and calms down our body thereby giving us multiple positive vibes within us. The art piece can be created by any age group without any painting skills. Due to our fast routine life and the struggle that we do make to survive in our current world, the well-being of our body is most important to achieve our goals, this art is a complete package to do it.
