Let me tell you a little bit about this particular dance form. Sarina Jain, who created this dance form, is a well-known figure in fitness. Following her father’s sudden death due to a massive cardiac arrest, Sarina sought to fulfill some of his wishes. Her father always wanted her kids to be in touch with their Indian roots. After thinking about it for a while, Sarina decided to create a fitness program with an Indian and Punjabi flair. In order to combine Indian dance with Bollywood music, she developed Masala Bhagra Workout. With a worldwide presence of this workout program, she has successfully completed 23 years in the fitness industry.
My Encounter with Bhangra
When it comes to dancing, I used to be very shy, but now I really enjoy it. Whenever I dance, I do it with all my heart. Occasionally, I danced at family functions and other occasions, but it was just practicing the correct steps. As a child, I would perform any song my parents asked me to perform. In later years, I always wanted to dance and enjoy the song, but I never performed. In the course of my life, I moved to Singapore with my family. Sikhs are very passionate about bhangra/dance, and I married into a family that values that. In general, they are the people who dance and eat a lot. Since my school days, I have loved bhangra, but I wasn’t so clean with my steps.

Taking my daughter to swim class in a community center in Singapore, I noticed something that excited me. The community center announced that Masala Bhangra workout classes would be held for people interested in learning balle balle. Even though I hadn’t a clue how the course would go, I enrolled anyway.

Masala Bhangra Workout Classes
For the first time, I learned something not so new with people from different communities like Chinese, Indians, Europeans, etc. I wanted to do it. Once I got to the venue, I changed my clothes and joined the group. My hands and legs start moving when the music hits my ear since I understand Bollywood songs easily. There’s something very passionate and catchy about Bhangra beats. Shirris Sheikh, my instructor, is really good at this dance form despite her Chinese heritage. Despite my hesitation, she made me feel comfortable and understood my reluctance to catch up. The weekly bhangra classes after that used to be a highlight of my week. As a form of exercise, it triggers feel-good hormones. The beats cause your body to shake automatically. I enjoyed it very much. All my classes were completed with love and fulfillment. It was my first workout, and I enjoyed every minute of it since it was bhangra. Whenever we visited India for a festival or marriage, I would be the first to shake my body to Punjabi beats without hesitation. Masala Bhangra makes me fall in love. This is the reason I am writing this post to let more people know about it. It is my hope that my post will bring this awareness to the public.
